Ipswich City Council is committed to providing spaces that promote social inclusion, health and well-being for its community. Stage One, of the new $3.9 million dollar skate and youth facility completed in December 2022, is a contender for one of the best skateparks in Australia. In collaboration with CONVIC, a specialist in skate park and youth area design, the Redbank Plains Recreation Reserve quickly became the ultimate youth precinct attracting big crowds. The skate park features a variety of ramps, rails and obstacles designed to accommodate different skills levels.
The Reserve hosted the BMD Rumble Tour, the largest skateboarding event in the southern hemisphere, a four-stop tour across the nation featuring Australian and international skateboarders. The third stop of this national tour was announced as an annual qualifying event, one of eight across the nation. Entrants who scored in a minimum of four of the qualifying events could be nominated for the Olympics.
Since its opening, the facility has hosted sessions for the YouFor2032 Talent Identification Program, designed to identify the next generation of elite athletes, a program open to all. Ipswich is primed to take advantage of the transformational potential of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with our very own homegrown skateboarding talent ready to shine on the world stage. Council continues its committed to being a city of opportunity for all.
Stage two of the Reserve will include construction of a learn to ride track, two multipurpose courts (Futsal/Basketball and Netball Basketball), parkour elements and a Ping Pong table.
